Is the software really free?
Yes. You can download, install, and use the automatic background backup software to backup your data locally for absolutely no charge. We do not require an email or any other information for the download. The online backup option does require registration and a yearly fee.

Can I truly backup an unlimited amount of data?
Yes. Our online option is unlimited. You can backup as much data locally as you have room for on your local devices.

Is there any type of data which cannot be backed up?
Currently, open files cannot be backed up. We are currently working to add the capability. We anticipate that the next release will contain this capability. Other than that, there is no type of file which we know of that cannot be backed up. The program does not in any case discriminate between types of files that it will backup, including, executables and other program files. System and hidden files can be backed up if you choose that option.

Could I backup my entire disk?
Yes, if you use something like Nortons Ghost or DriveImage XML to create a full disk backup locally, there is no reason you could not back up these files. Be aware though that this is a process likely to take days to complete, depending upon the amount of data involved and your connection speed.

Will my data be encrypted?
All files are, by default, encrypted using 256 AES encryption which is U.S. Government top secret level encryption. The encrypted files are then transferred via SSL. You can turn off this option if you wish.

Can I use this program with a dial up connection?
The program has not been designed or tested using a dial up connection. We think it highly unlikely that trying to use it with a dial up connection would be satisfactory.

What kind of schedule does the program use?
The programs standard mode of operation is to operate in the background. It uses timing and CPU load to try and determine when to operate with the least impact on the user. The CPU utilization threshold can be adjusted to modify this a bit. In addition, backups can be performed manually at any time and/or on a schedule. You can schedule backup sets to run just about any time, and as many times, as you want.

Where is my data stored?
Locally, you can store your data just about anywhere; hard drives, external drives, usb drives, network drives, any drive you have access to, including CD and DVD drives on Vista and Windows 7 using UDF or the 'Live File System'.
Your online encrypted data is stored on servers in the "cloud". Cloud computing is becoming more and more prevalent as the need for ever expanding storage space on demand increases. The "cloud" has been a metaphor for the internet for many years. Notable cloud storage space providing companies are Amazon and Rackspace. In this case, it means that your encrypted data is stored on professionally maintained systems that can provide an ever expanding space to store your data.

How do I get a discount on my tax preparation?
You can access the FileSafe.com online tax preparation and electronic filing system through the backup program to receive discounted services. Click on the FileSafe.com button on the far left of the main menu to access the special portal into the system to receive discounted prices. You can currently receive a $10.00 discount this way. You can only get this discount by accessing the system through our backup program.You must originate your return through this link in order to receive the discounted pricing. Accessing a return previously started through the website may not receive discounted pricing.
